Summary: Due to the biological relevance of coastal environments, such as restingas, represented by high richness indexes, species diversity and heterogeneity of plant formations, studies are needed to evaluate how global changes can influence the composition of plant communities. In this sense, it is important to analyze how species characteristics vary along environmental gradients, such as variation in water availability. For this, indexes of functional diversity and interspecific variation of the species used were based on foliar anatomical characteristics and chloroplastidic pigments content. Among the functional diversity indexes, only richness and functional dispersion were responsive to the anatomical attributes. Meanwhile, the indices for pigment contents were not responsive. The epidermis of the adaxial face presented structural variation along the water gradient, as well as the chloroplastidic pigments content.
