Summary: Functional attributes are the most notable characteristics of an organism that are expressed according to the environment it is in, characteristics that can be measured through biometrics. Based on this, the objective was to investigate by means of comparison in two restinga areas, floodable and non-floodable, the species Protium heptaphillym (Aubl.) March, evaluating its foliar characteristics through biometry, stomatal density. Ten specimens of P. heptaphyllum were selected and their leaves collected for biometric analysis. The selection criterion was based on the height and diameter of the species and its occurrence in the two restinga areas (flooding and non-flooding), in addition to being the only one of the genus Protium present in these areas. From the collection of its leaves, leaf area and specific leaf area, fresh and dry mass, leaf and petiole thickness, leaf and petiole length and sclerophyllic index were obtained. Mean values and the standard deviation of each biometric parameter were determined, considering the significant values between the two areas. The results showed that there was no significant difference for leaf thickness when compared with the non-flooded and flooded areas. On the other hand, the other attributes showed significant differences, and in the area of restinga subject to flooding, it obtained higher values compared to the area not subject to flooding. On the other hand, the number of stomata and their density were higher in the non-flooded restinga.
